"iz .art" : Homage à Diego Velàzquez
"Las Meninas", "Margarita Julietta" and Velazquez' "Portrait of Pope Innozenz X" were for Iz Maglow in the nineties the starting point for exploring the paintings of the Spanish painter Diego Velazquez, as well as paintings on portraiture situations between Painter and Model.
Las Meninas
The portraiture in Velazquez's painting "Las Meninas" has employed many painters. Iz Maglow was also interested in the composition and groupings of the actors in this composition and was the inspiration for this homage à Diego Velàzquez.

The pope is waiting for his portrait. He had his appointment early in the morning. Even the royal family with children, nurse and servants has arrived. The royal dog seems to like the scent colors and fell asleep. Margarita Julietta introduces her new dress, but only one question is in the room: Why did not the painter come yet? – And who is entering Velazquez's studio right now?

"The Royal Child" is an oft-quoted theme in Iz Maglow's painting. In several series, the artist shows his variations of a motif that was originally painted by the Spanish painter Diego Velazquez. Again and again Iz Maglow came back to this subject.

Artistically related paintings
In the "Painter and Model" series, Iz picks up the portraiture situation and develops a narrative of its own. In two series of paintings with colored ensembles, the process comes to life like the "painter's masterpiece". The portrayed model emerges from the newly finished painting to leave the painter.
Painter and Model
The actors in "Painter and Model" are "painted hints". The figures and attributes to be guessed will grow together in a common color structure. These works are painted with tempera and acrylic on canvas and paper, drawn, puttied or scratched and of expressive style.
