The name of the paper tissue itself and the package imprint "Size: 22 x 22.5 cm" on every German Tempo pack were the catalyst for Iz Maglow's artistic and ironic engagement with the theme "TEMPO" at the beginning of the eighties.

Here, too, the irony with which this topic was tackled is revealed: a simple cellulose cloth with the standardized letters for "SAMPLE" on a wooden plate with the lofty Latin title "IMAGO AD IMITANDUM PROPOSITA".

PORTA NIGRA, the gate of the city of Trier in Roman times, is in terms of color, durability and monumentality the absolute "ANTI-TEMPO" and one of the most conceivable contrasts to the fragile paper tissue "TEMPO".

By the time Iz Maglow was working on his Tempo series, 141 people were arrested in Nuremberg in a "mass" arrest, right in the city where the TEMPO company is based. This inspired the artist to this art object.
